Our own well being is of paramount importance and as fit and healthy as we are, or at least believe we are, there is just no telling when we may need some sort of medical treatment. Assuming that we won't ever need any is a very big and very foolish risk that too many of us take. Asking yourself 'do I need health insurance?', sooner rather than later, is a wise move.
Health insurance is implemented to cover the cost of private medical treatment for any illness and injury that is curable and short term.
In the USA and UK alone the amount of people who do not have any kind of health insurance is staggering.
In America without having any insurance in place the cost of any healthcare treatment you require is down to you to pay and these costs can be astronomical, we are talking thousands of dollars. If by saying you can't afford health insurance is your excuse, just look at it this way, if the unexpected was to happen to you or your family, could you afford the thousands it would cost to have them treated? The small monthly, quarterly or annual premium you will pay would be a lot less so clearly just having the insurance in place is the more affordable option!
Many people in the USA are enrolled in some sort of managed health care insurance plan. This is an organised way of both providing services and paying for them. Health insurance benefits not just yourself as an idividual but your whole family to as they can be included on your plan. There are corporate health insurance schemes available but not everybody has a job let alone a job where their employer has such a scheme in place as they are not mandatory, this is why it is vital that we take it upon ourselves to get this important cover and peace of mind.
There are a vast range of health insurance plans out there so once you have answered the question 'do I need health insurance?' you then need to decide which type of health insurance it is that you need.
